On 22 January 2026, the UCD Engineering Graduates Association (EGA), in collaboration with (opens in a new window)Arup, UCD Engineering Society ((opens in a new window)EngSoc), and the UCD (opens in a new window)Women+ in STEM Society, hosted an industry networking event for UCD engineering students at Arup’s Dublin headquarters.
About the Event
The event gave students an opportunity to meet engineers and consultants from a range of disciplines and career stages – from graduate engineers through to senior leadership. The evening included an introduction from Joe Burns, Director and Geography Leader of Arup in Ireland, and Emeritus Associate Professor David Timoney, President of the UCD Engineering Graduates Association, followed by informal networking with Arup professionals, during which students learned about (opens in a new window)completed and ongoing projects across multiple disciplines and gained insight into real-world engineering practice.
Supporting Alumni and Industry Engagement
The EGA’s core focus is alumni engagement; however, as a committed corporate member, (opens in a new window)Arup kindly offered its support in engaging with current UCD engineering students through this event. The evening provided an opportunity for Arup staff - including UCD alumni - to reconnect with students, share insights from industry, and highlight current and recent project work.
The EGA would like to extend its sincere thanks to Arup for hosting the event and for their continued support of UCD engineering students. In particular, we would like to thank (opens in a new window)Hannah Murphy, Early Careers Recruiter at Arup, for her time and commitment in coordinating the event and engaging colleagues from across the firm. We would also like to thank Joe Burns, Ireland Leader at Arup; Ronan Travers, Associate Director and Geotechnical Engineer; Gráinne Wolfe, Director; and Dympna Kilgallen, HR Manager, as well as all other members of the Arup team who generously gave their time and shared their expertise on the evening.
