EGA Research Showcase Event
On Wednesday, 26 November 2025, the Engineering Graduates Association (EGA), in collaboration with UCD Alumni, was delighted to welcome a group of engineering alumni back to campus for the EGA Lab Tours and Research Showcase.
The evening offered alumni a unique opportunity to step inside UCD’s teaching and research facilities, hear directly from academic staff, and see first-hand the impressive work currently being undertaken by students and researchers across the School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering and the School of Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering.
Alumni visited a range of facilities, including:
-
Micro & Nano Manufacturing Technology (MNMT) laboratories, showcasing advanced precision manufacturing, biomedical devices, optics, and metrology
-
Robotics & Intelligent Manufacturing laboratories, featuring industrial, mobile, and collaborative robots
-
Student design spaces, where members of the UCD Formula Student Team and the UCD UAV Team presented their extracurricular engineering projects
-
Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering laboratories, offering insights into current research activity and facilities
In addition to the lab tours, attendees enjoyed research presentations highlighting the breadth of engineering activity taking place in UCD today.
Alumni commented particularly positively on the opportunity to speak directly with students and researchers, the small-group format, and the chance to see both teaching and research spaces in action. Feedback included:
“Seeing the nanotechnology facilities and the students' projects (racing car and drone) was a real highlight.”
“The lab tours and the networking discussions were particularly good.”
“The lab tour was very informative, the small group worked well, and the presentations were interesting.”
“Seeing student extracurricular activities (Formula Student, UAV), speaking to the students, and getting an understanding of the amount of research conducted in UCD.”
The EGA would like to thank Assoc Prof Vincent Hargaden; Head of School, Mechanical & Materials Engineering (MME); Assoc Prof Steven Ferguson, Head of School, Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering; Prof Eoin Casey, Head of Research, Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering; Dr Philip Donnellan, MME; Dr Javad Zeinali, MME; Dr Wenhao Zhang, MME; and (opens in a new window)Aaron Humberto Rios Villanueva for their academic and research contributions to the event.
We are also grateful to the student representatives from the (opens in a new window)UCD UAV Team and the (opens in a new window)UCD Formula Student Team for showcasing their work and engagement on the evening.
Stay connected
Events such as the EGA Lab Tours and Research Showcase highlight the value of staying connected with UCD Engineering - fostering lifelong links between alumni, students and staff.
To hear about future alumni events and initiatives, we encourage graduates to stay engaged with the Engineering Graduates Association and (opens in a new window)join our LinkedIn Engineering Graduates Association network.
