BEd Gaeilge &/or Modern Languages Students Gain Valuable Experience in Primary School Placements
Year 1 students enrolled in the UCD Bachelor of Education Gaeilge and/or Modern Languages programme are currently gaining valuable experience through a school placement program taking place every Friday of Trimester 2. This programme provides them with the opportunity to practice their teaching skills and gain insights into the world of primary education in 20 participating primary schools across Ireland.
During their placements, students work in small groups within these schools, engaging in various activities:
- Leading engaging language activities: This allows them to put their language skills and pedagogical knowledge into practice in a real-world classroom setting.
- Observing experienced teachers: Students have the unique opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals by observing their teaching methods and classroom management strategies.
- Acting as an additional support: They contribute to the overall learning environment by providing assistance to teachers and students within the school community.
This immersive programme allows students to develop their teaching skills, gain valuable classroom experience, and build confidence and communication skills in a real-world setting. It also provides a platform to observe best practices in language education, preparing them for their future careers as language teachers.
We are incredibly grateful to the 20 primary schools participating in this program for providing our students with this invaluable opportunity.
