Through the promotion of enterprise & innovation, with a specific focus on social enterprise, we support our researchers in going one step further to make an impact with their research. We run a number of initiatives, including workshops and events, to foster multidisciplinary entrepreneurship and creativity to find innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues.
Social Enterprise
The primary goal of a social enterprise is to tackle social or environmental (or both) issues while serving the common good. Unlike conventional businesses, profits are reinvested into a social mission rather than dispersed amongst shareholders. From providing safe drinking water, introducing renewable energy, creating jobs for the unemployed or advancing education initiatives, social enterprises fulfil a range of critical functions in Ireland and internationally.
At UCD Earth Institute, we are dedicated to supporting our researchers in developing social enterprise opportunities as a dimension of their work.
