New Education & Climate Change network seeks Research Assistant

In December 2020, the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) awarded Dr Orla Kelly, one of our members based in  the School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice, a research development grant to establish a research network titled Education in a Warming World: A Collaborative Research Network on Education and Climate Change. The new network starts from an understanding that education is crucial in the era of climatic change, proposing that rigorous and trans-disciplinary research is needed to understand how societies can best harness this social institution to promote global sustainability. The network are looking to find a research assistant to join the team. The research consortium includes leading academics from several top-class research institutions in Europe, Australia and Africa. There are members from both the social and natural sciences with expertise in climate change, climate change education, sustainability, and science communication.

The research consortium is now well established, and has decided to work on the following projects over the next eight months.

  • a set of best practice guidelines for promoting a robust climate change and sustainability education agenda at the tertiary level.
  • An academic article
  • Six-eight ten-minute science communication videos
  • A ten-episode podcast

Dr Kelly is looking for research assistance with various aspects of the project implementation, including desk research, multimedia (video and podcast) production, and project administration.

The successful RA should be enrolled in or have completed a graduate level degree e.g., MSc. or PhD in the field of education/ sustainability/ communications / or related field. The RA is expected to dedicate an average of 1.5-2 days per week to the project between May 2021 and December 2021 (50 days total).

Applicants should have academic writing expertise, communication and multimedia skills and enthusiasm for climate change education, and science communication.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in building their academic networks and learning more about this field.
