New Institute members, October 2019
A very warm welcome to our newest Institute members, William Foster from the School of Earth Sciences, Oliver Kinnane from the School of Architecture, Planning & Environmental Policy and Páraic Carroll, School of Civil Engineering. William’s research investigates the evolutionary response of benthic marine ecosystems to climate change. In particular, he investigates the impact of Mesozoic and Cenozoic hyperthermal events, including the end-Permian mass extinction, end-Triassic mass extinction, and Palaeocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum. His research focuses on palaeontological techniques and also integrate geochemistry, sedimentology, and data science.
Oliver is an architect and engineer with an interest in the fundamentals of building science, how we experience buildings and how we can improve their performance. His work concentrates on optimising building skins and systems, including the methods by which we envelop and condition our homes and buildings, investigating the interface between human and building.
Páraic’s research interests include transport policy and travel demand management, transport modelling, transport and behavioural economics, stated preference surveying and discrete choice modelling, transport accessibility and social inclusion assessment, as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation, and risk management.
