The UCD Institute of Food and Health, the UCD Earth Institute, and the UCD Conway Institute—supported by funding from the UCD Research Culture ReCLAIM award scheme—are launching a new science communication training programme to upskill our research communities through storytelling.

We are seeking early career researchers (PhD students, MSc students, PostDocs, and Research Assistants) from across the three institutes to join the first cohort of this exciting programme.

The training consists of three interactive online workshops, each lasting two hours, scheduled for May 7th, 14th, and 21st from 11 AM to 1 PM:

  • Workshop 1: Led by leading science communicator Dr Shaun O’Boyle, this session will explore the art of storytelling, teaching participants how to craft engaging, accessible narratives with strong storytelling elements.
  • Workshop 2: Delivered by award-winning graphic designer Ruza Luko, this session will focus on visual communication, equipping participants with design skills to enhance their presentations with impactful visuals.
  • Workshop 3: Returning to storytelling, Dr O’Boyle will guide participants in integrating their visual communication skills and developing innovative ways to share their research.

Following the training, participants will have the opportunity to apply their skills at various UCD events, promoting best practices and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

If you’re interested in joining the May workshops, please complete (opens in a new window)registration form here.

This course will run a second time in the Autumn so email (opens in a new window)caitriona.devery@ucd.ie if this suits you better or if we reach capacity for May’s events.
