Josie Taylor

Postdoctoral Research Fellow


Josie Taylor is the Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the ENACT project in the School of Business across the Earth Institute and Research Centre for Applied Geosciences (iCRAG). Her current and past research explores energy culture and environmental humanities. Her first book is forthcoming with Palgrave Animal and Literature Series and is titled the Nonhuman Narratives of Energy. She has published on the areas of emotion and affect, science fiction, energy and animal studies. She is a member of the research collective Beyond Gender. Her research is moving to explore the intersections of social science methods, community engagement and the humanities.

Geertje Schuitema

Associate Professor

Geertje Schuitema is an Associate Professor at the College of Business. She is an environmental psychologist who researches the psychological processes that underpin behavioural change, such as emotions, trust, fairness and social norms. She studies if and how these psychological factors explain people’s responses to change and how they can be used to design interventions or policies. She applies this to address challenges in energy security, transportation, nature conservation and sustainable food choices.

Tomas Buitendijk

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Tomas Buitendijk is an interdisciplinary researcher based at the Earth Institute and the Research Ireland Centre for Applied Geosciences (iCRAG), both at University College Dublin. He is a project partner with ENACT. In his work, Tomas combines theory and methodologies from the Blue and Environmental Humanities and the Marine Social Sciences to develop new insights into community connections with the coastal and marine landscape, and the impact of change.

Mark Coughlan

Assistant Professor (Ad Astra Fellow)

Mark lectures and researches in Marine Geoscience at the UCD School of Earth Sciences, as well as being a member of iCRAG and the Earth Institute. His research focuses on changes in the seabed over different timescales and the sustainable use of the seabed to address climate change and energy transition issues. To that end, he has collaborated with academic and industry experts in geotechnics, geophysics, biogeochemistry, glacial geomorphology, oceanography, computational fluid dynamics, numerical modelling, environmental humanities and social science.
