On Saturday, 14 June, 1-4 pm, twelve female speakers will share their research in Dublin City Centre as part of Soapbox Science 2025. Taking place on South King Street next to the statue of Luke Kelly, the public is welcome to drop by any time for this free event.

New funding award boosts Ireland-Wales research collaboration

May 29th 2025: Ireland’s Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD, and Wales’ Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, Rebecca Evans MS, have today announced funding totalling €584,378 for eight successful projects under the Research Alliance Award initiative.

Professor Aoife Ahern from the UCD College of Engineering and Architecture has received an Engineers Ireland President’s Award for Recognition of Outstanding Contribution to the Engineering Profession. 

Engineers Ireland is the country’s professional body for engineering, and the award honours individuals who have made impact on the field through academic achievements, industry leadership or public service.

LaNua Medical has been named the recipient of the 2025 NovaUCD Spin-out of the Year Award.

LaNua Medical is developing a groundbreaking medical device designed to make minimally invasive, x-ray-guided, endovascular treatment of numerous conditions including internal bleeding, vascular malformations and many benign and malignant tumours safe and effective.

Dr Emer Doheny, UCD School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Dr Jayne Carberry, UCD School of Medicine, have been named recipients of the 2025 NovaUCD Invention of the Year Award
They received the Award for a novel medical device, which they have developed and designed, that allows for the measurement and training of individual oropharyngeal muscles using a moveable oral sensor.

Minister Lawless announces €17.7 million research infrastructure investment

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD, has today announced a €17.7 million investment in nine research infrastructure projects through Research Ireland’s Research Infrastructure Programme. The awards will contribute to the advancement of high-quality and high-impact research activities across Ireland. Automated X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), led by Prof. Eoin Casey will replace XPS equipment to enhance surface analysis capabilities
