Soumyajit investigates the dynamics of switching systems which can be recast as piecewise smooth maps. Under certain conditions, these systems exhibit nonsmooth bifurcations, called border collision bifurcations. In earlier works, these kinds of atypical bifurcations have been studied numerically and experimentally in switching electronic circuits and mechanical oscillators. Now he is focusing on controlling those atypical bifurcations by introducing time delays in one of the state variables of the switching systems. He has extensive expertise in designing electronic circuits and a few mechanical oscillators.
