The ECB and the European Parliament
An "Expert Panellist" View - by Karl Whelan
The European Central Bank is legally required to consult with the European Parliament. This process involves four meetings per year between the ECB President and the Economic and Monetary Affairs committee in which MEPs ask questions.
Karl Whelan has been a member of an expert panel of advisers to the Parliament in relation to this "Monetary Dialogue" since 2009. The briefing papers he has provided to the committee can be found at
