'Cut From the Same Cloth' - Engaging Women from Minority Communities in STEM
'Cut from the Same Cloth’ is a gathering of women in a community setting to share stories about the fabrics in our lives. Cloth plays a role in family traditions and cultural customs. We want to hear about personal connections to pieces of cloth. We would like to share the stories behind the patterns the researchers see when they are working on the cells inside the body during health research.
We would like to get to know women and female adolescents from minority communities in Ireland to build trust and new connections.
Why? We believe it is important that diverse voices are heard and represented in the channels that inform our research.
A series of 10 ‘get togethers’ will take place during 2024 in community settings around Ireland. These will lead to an exhibition of work by artist and tapestry weaver, Lorna Donlon that will tour 5 venues during 2025. A digital exhibition documenting these stories will be housed on https://cutfromthesamecloth.org/.
