The Leica EM ACE600 Sputter Coater/Carbon coater/Glow discharger. Note: The high-vacuum device requires perfectly dry samples. Ask the Imaging Core staff if you need assistance in drying samples. The sputter coater uses the base vacuum in the range of 10-5 to 10-6 mBar, and coats samples with the metal nanolayer in the atmosphere (low vacuum) of Ar at 10-2 mBar. The Ar bottle is attached to the device and is not difficult to operate. The following metals are available for coating: Pt, Cr, W, Ir. Also, the device can coat samples with the nanolayer of carbon, and operate as a glow discharger.
