Project Objectives

Obj. 1: Determine soil carbon sequestration potential for alternative soil management practices considering carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus inputs and inherent soil properties; soil C decision support models validation.

Obj. 2: Evaluate the influence of climate change on soil carbon sequestration, and nitrogen and phosphorus cycling under alternative and conventional soil management practices.

Obj. 3: Quantify climate change mitigation associated with alternative soil management practices at field, farm and regional scale  using ecosystem and life cycle assessment modelling.

Obj. 4: Assess the climate change adaptation capacity and economic profitability associated with the alternative soil management practices.

Obj. 5: Identify a) socio-cultural structural factors that enable or disable the adoption of alternative soil management practices and b) policies that could accelerate the adoption of these practices in Europe.
