The Shrinking Space for European Civil Society: What can be Done?
Friday, 7 July, 2017
From gag laws to emergency laws, from inspections against human rights groups to the active erosion of LGBTI and migrant rights, the space in which civil society and human rights defenders can operate in Europe, as in the rest of the world, is shrinking. The UCD Centre for Human Rights was pleased to collaborate with Frontline Defenders in hosting an event aimed at addressing this pressing issue on May 26th at the Science Gallery, Dublin.
The keynote speaker was Michael O’Flaherty, CEO of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), based in Vienna. FRA is an independent body which guides and advises EU governments on the best ways to ensure protection for fundamental human rights.
