Ethics & Education interdisciplinary workshop

The UCD Centre for Human Rights was delighted to co-host an interdisciplinary workshop on the theme of Ethics and Education at the Sutherland School of Law UCD on Friday September 13th, 2016. Organised together with the School of Education, School of Philosophy and the School of Politics and International Relations, the Workshop examined the various ways in which ethical issues and ethical training enter or ought to enter the primary and secondary school curricula in Ireland and the UK.

The workshop’s principal aim was to foster enhanced dialogue between disciplines, between countries, and between the levels of educational theory and concrete policy.

Speakers included: 

Dr. Áine Mahon, University College Dublin, School of Education.

"Ethics and Education: Perspectives from Moral and Political Philosophy."

(opens in a new window)Dr. Audrey Bryan (Dublin City University) who presented a paper on "Global Ethics and Education: Producing Global Citizens."

(opens in a new window)Dr. Jones Irwin (Dublin City University/National Council for Curriculum and Assessment) who presented a paper on "Ethics is not an exact science - from Aristotle to the Goodness Me, Goodness You! Curriculum.”
