Talk Title: Identifying Therapeutic Targets for Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Speaker Details: Dr Jean Fletcher PhD, FTCD
School of Biochemistry and Immunology
Trinity College Dublin
Short Biography: Jean Fletcher is an Associate Professor in Translational Immunology at Trinity College Dublin. Her research is focused on understanding the immune dysregulation underlying various autoimmune diseases including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and hidradenitis suppurativa. Underpinned by strong clinical collaborations, her research aims to predict treatment responses and identify new therapeutic targets for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, thus ultimately improving outcomes for patients.
Abstract for talk: Hidradenitis suppurativa is a debilitating inflammatory skin disease. Despite an incidence of approximately 1%, HS is often under-recognized and under-diagnosed and is associated with a high morbidity and poor quality of life. Immune dysregulation is thought to underly HS; however, a limited understanding of the pathogenesis is reflected in the inadequate treatment options for many patients.
Our Group’s recent research into the role of innate and adaptive immune cells as well as keratinocytes will be discussed in the context of therapeutic targeting.
