Meet with a Career & Skills Consultant

Belfield Students

If you are a UCD student based on the Belfield campus, or a recent graduate (up to two years after graduation), you can book a 20-minute 1-on-1 consultation with one of our Belfield-based Career & Skills Consultants.

There are two kinds of appointments available:

    • Prepare for an Interview
    • Improve your LinkedIn profile
  2. All Queries
    • Talk about your career options
    • Make a plan for your next steps
    • Cover anything else career-related

Please note: during peak periods (generally weeks 1 to 7 of trimesters 1 and 2 but this is subject to change), current UCD students are given priority access to 1-on-1 consultations and only a limited number of appointments are available to graduates.

Smurfit Students

If you are aSmurfit Graduate School of Business student or recent graduate, you can make a 30 minute consultation appointment with one of the Smurfit Careers Network team, based on the Blackrock campus.

Graduate Research Students

Current and recently graduated (up to two years) UCD Graduate Researchers (PhDs and Research Masters students) can book sixty-minute, confidential one-to-one session with Tara Hughes (Career and Skills Consultant for Graduate Researchers). They normally take place in the Careers Network offices beside the James Joyce Library or online via Zoom. Tara can also visit specific Schools or buildings on request.

Topics covered often include:

  • Formulating a career plan
  • Identifying your values and career priorities
  • Networking advice
  • Planning and organising the job search
  • Decision-making along the way and negotiating salary/offers
  • Application feedback and advice (CV and cover letters or application forms)
  • Mock interviews (Interview360 on MyCareer is very useful for online video interview practice).

Thirty-minute follow-up appointments are also available with Careers Consultant Ann McCarry.

Topics covered normally include:

  • Application feedback and advice (CV and cover letters or application forms)
  • Review and advice on LinkedIn profile
  • Interview preparation.

To ensure equity and quality of service, we ask all students to adhere to the following Appointments Policy:

  • A maximum of 2 appointments per week may be booked by each student/alum (not on the same day). 
  • Students are expected to upload/email relevant documents for review at the time of booking their appointment (e.g. C.V., cover letter, job description or personal statement). 
  • It is recommended that students arrive/log in 5 minutes before the appointment time. 
  • If you cannot attend your appointment, please cancel at least 1 hour in advance, allowing another student to book the slot.
  • Two “no shows” or multiple cancellations with insufficient notice within a single trimester will result in temporary suspension of the booking function.
  • If a student is more than 10 minutes late to the appointment, they will be asked to rebook for an alternative day.
