Webinar: Gender & Equality in Climate and Urban Research. Monday 4 November 2024, 1.00 -2.30pm CET

As part of the C-NEWTRAL network training, online modules will be delivered on aspects specifically targeting DCs climate-neutral research. The first of of these sessions ‘Gender & Equality in Climate and Urban Research’ has been opened to all early career researchers as part of UCD Earth Institute research culture and EDI events programme for 2024-2025.

Programme:

Dr. Paula Russell: Gender and urban planning

The lecture will discuss gender inclusivity in planning and will look at the manner in which a more gender focused emphasis in policy and practice can contribute to more sustainable and liveable cities.

Professor Sirkku Juhola: Connecting climate change and gender

This talk will address the main ways in which climate change connects to gender issues, by focusing on the impact, sources of emissions as well as the governance and science of climate change.

C-NEWTRAL Supervisors' Kick-off Meeting, 4-5th April 2024

UCD hosted a two-day (hybrid) Supervisors’ kick-off meeting, which brought together the C-NEWTRAL Host Institutions (UCD, UNIBO, UdG, UHEI, UH, QUB), Associated Partners (who will host and train the doctoral candidates) and External Advisory Board members. The College Principal (UCD College of Engineering and Architecture) Professor Aoife Ahern welcomed the project/network, which was followed by a presentation from the EU Project Officer’. Discussions for proceeding with the project activities for the next months were undertaken.

The kick-off was launched on day one with an event 'Research Culture across Europe' (organised in collaboration with the UCD Earth Institute Research Culture & EDI committee and C-NEWTRAL Doctoral Network) with interesting discussions and insights from speakers Dr Lucia Alexandra Popartan (University of Girona) and Professor Jacopo Gaspari, (University of Bologna). The kick-off was a great start for the C-NEWTRAL Doctoral Network!

NEXT BUILT 24 International Conference - call for abstracts now open!

The 2nd edition of the International Conference on Challenges for the NEXT generation BUILT Environment (NEXT BUILT 24), will take place May 9-10, 2024 in Bologna (IT). The aim is to stimulate a reflection on the next generation built environment within a context of resource scarcity or heavily influenced by climate change impacts, assuming a strong forward-looking approach.

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 January 15.
All accepted papers will be published in a NEXTBUILT 2024 special issue of IOP Publishing Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science.
