Global change is occurring in complex socio-ecological systems. Understanding the intricate changes in our land, air and water requires advanced knowledge in measurement, modelling and prediction. Responding to these changes requires effective communication of the science in order to underpin innovative policies. This International MSc course running in collaboration with Justus - Liebig University in Germany, is the response to these challenges and will suit skilled science graduates wishing to develop a scientific career in ecosystem research.
The Masters programme in Applied Environmental Science provides graduates with a thorough knowledge of environmental science and its application in solving environmental problems. It will equip students with skills to develop a career in environmental assessment, evaluating potential change in environmental quality in response to various land-use and other activities and in the development of management and conservation strategies as well as contributing to policy formulation.

In the last decade there has been a rapid development in our understanding of plants and their place in the world. This has been achieved through advances in genomics, cell biology, physiology, ecology and studies on climate change. There is a need to train graduates in advances in plant science to enable them the meet the challenges of the future and to equip them for subsequent studies and research and innovation.
