Dr Nima Afraz representing UCD in the 2023 International Optics Forum Beijing
Tuesday, 7 November, 2023
Nima Afraz participated in the 2023 首都光学界中外学者论坛 2023 International Optics Forum Beijing representing UCD and giving a talk on the next-generation networks, evolution of access network sharing methods, from their current regulatory-driven designs to the potential of more flexible and efficient models facilitated by emerging technologies, integration of Open RAN, which heralds a paradigm shift, enabling more open and disaggregated radio access networks, offering a new dimension to network sharing and open networks. The discussion was around predominant challenges faced by current sharing models.
Nima Afraz is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science, at University College Dublin. He is affiliated with the CONNECT Research Centre and his research focuses on blockchain applications in telecoms, the economics of networks and network virtualisation. Nima is a recipient of the government of Ireland postdoctoral fellowship and worked as a postdoctoral fellow to address the challenges in the adoption of blockchain technology in telecommunications. He is the vice-chair of the Linux Foundation’s Hyperledger telecom special interest group. He received his PhD in computer science from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, in 2020.
