Date: 5 & 12 November 2025
Time: 10am-3pm
Venue: Humanities Institute (H204/top floor)

‘Creative Responses to Crisis: Spoken Word and Creative Expression’ Youth Workshops

The first public engagement strand of the HI ‘Crisis’ project includes two full-day ‘Creative Responses to Crisis: Spoken Word and Creative Expression' workshops. Involving HI-led collaborations with the creative arts NGO Fighting Words and UCD Access, the workshops are for 15 Transition Year and 5th Year students from UCD-Access linked schools.

Experienced creative writing facilitators Nora Nic Con Ultaigh (Education Director at Fighting Words), Adam Mohamed (Irish-Sudanese spoken word artist) and Cormac Mac Gearailt (current All-Ireland poetry slam champion and the UNESCO Cities of Literature Slamovision Champion for an Irish language poem) will be guiding the student participants through a process of creatively responding to the crises they see around them or in the world at the moment, using poetry and spoken word.

Students will also have the chance to tour parts of the University and have lunch on campus. The participants, along with their families, are invited to attend (and perform at, if they wish) the second major public engagement element of the HI’s ‘Crisis’ project – the ‘Festival of Ideas in an Age of Permacrisis’ at MoLI on 10 March 2026.
