Scope and Content

Copy of a statement by Daniel F. O'Shaughnessy, Kilfinane, County Limerick, to the Bureau of Military History. Concentrates largely on the activities of the East Limerick Brigade and Flying Column, 1919–21, with comment on individual military actions, ambushes and assassinations, written from notes taken in 1930–32 from prominent members of the Flying Column and from personal reminiscence. Includes comment on disputes within the Brigade and the ascendancy of the Irish Republican Brotherhood; as well as local and national events from 1909 such as early Sinn Féin political activity and the effect of World War 1 on the locality.
