Biographical History
Captain Hans Boehm was assigned by the German High Command to assist Roger Casement while he was in Germany to raise a brigade among Irish prisoners-of-war to return to Ireland and assist the fight for independence. While Casement spoke no German, Boehm was married to an American and had several Irish friends. He assisted Casement significantly until he was sent on a mission, possibly to the USA, in September 1915. He was arrested in British waters off Falmouth in 1917 and interned.
