Teaching Support Role Vacancies for Current Graduate Research Students

Teaching Support Role Vacancies 

Note: Only current Graduate Research Students (MLitt/PhD) are eligible for these roles. 

Overview:

Teaching Support Students help to provide undergraduate students with the opportunity to explore and apply the concepts, skills, and competencies introduced in class, in a manner that is not usually possible in larger classroom environments.

Teaching Support Roles assist the module coordinator in modules, it may include tutorials, administration, demonstration work, field trips. 

An indicative range of the hours required, e.g. ARCH1XXXX requires input from Sept to Dec or Jan to Apr each year and approx. 90 hours, whereas ARCH2XXX has two fieldtrips of 8 hours each

Throughout the year, there may also be a need for teaching support in other modules in the School.

Teaching Support Information

Recruitment Process:

The School will be advertising the teaching support roles in April of each year, PhD and MLitt students are welcome to apply. Applications will be completed by using a form, an interview may also be needed. We hope to confirm all  successful applicants  in place by June of each year. 

Successful applicants will need to start during the week prior to the start of the trimester.  Training by the School will be provided during these weeks. 

We aim to assign teaching support roles in August when student numbers are confirmed as these vary from year to year. 

Hours/Payment 

Please note that in UCD there is a restriction of students are not allowed to work more than 150 hours in any one academic year. Your funding agency may also have restrictions, please check your agreement with them before applying.

You will be informed of the pay rate for your support role prior to your role starting. 

Payment is paid on a monthly basis and in arrears. 

Training:

Training will be provided by the School for your teaching support role. 

The University Teaching & Learning Unit provide a 5 credit module ‘Introduction to
University Teaching and Learning for Tutors (and Demonstrators)’ (UTL40230)
The aim of this module is to enable those who are responsible for supporting teaching in UCD, to reflect, review and enhance their teaching, learning and assessment practices. Participants are introduced to the key principles of module design, session planning, assessment, and the use of educationaltechnology.

Please note that the form will only be accessible for the current graduate research students in the UCD School of Archaeology.
