Interactive Part-time Guide

At UCD we have many different options for part-time study - our main programmes are University Access, Lifelong Learning, and Open Learning. You can learn about all three on this page, but if you're unsure which is best for you, we have a handy tool with some straightforward questions that will help you decide the one that you should apply for.

University Access

Access courses are one year long, part-time courses designed to prepare adults who may not have formal qualifications for successful study at university. These are Special Purpose Awards (Level 6) which equip students with the skills and confidence required to take the next step to selected degree courses at UCD.

Read more about your options on our University Access page.

Lifelong Learning

We've been running Lifelong Learning classes for over 75 years, and each year welcome hundreds of students to classes on campus and in various locations all over Dublin. With subjects from Science to History and English to Philosophy, they are a great way to explore topics in a low-pressure atmosphere with like-minded people, learn from experts in the field, and stay engaged with topics you're passionate about.

Read more about our courses and how to book on our Lifelong Learning page.

Open Learning

Open Learning is an alternative entry route that allows you to select from 450+ modules from UCD's six Colleges and the Centre for English and Global Languages. You can sign up to take classes with no assessment (audit), with assessment (credit), or to apply for one of 17 full-time undergraduate degree programmes. Open Learners can get all of the same supports as every other UCD student, and will have regular meetings with the Open Learning team.
