The Centre received €5 million in funding from Met Éireann’s Weather and Climate Research Programme, with the aim to develop a National AI centre focused on accelerating weather, flood and climate research and its translation to national operations.
The Centre mission will focus on building further capacity and capability in data science and AI in the higher education sector, particularly in AI and data science applications for weather, flood and climate services.
The Centre is led by Professor Andrew Parnell, supported by UCD faculty and Met Éireann staff. It will support cohorts of PhDs and postdoctoral researchers.
