UCD Teagasc Knowledge Transfer Funded Masters 2025

The (opens in a new window)MSc Agricultural Extension and Innovation and MSc Agricultural Innovation Support are collaborative funded programmes delivered by UCD and Teagasc for graduates with an interest and ambition to work in advisory and education roles. These programmes involve placement within Teagasc advisory and educational services where the student gets the opportunity to learn from experienced mentors.

Both programmes start in September 2025 with limited funded places available. 

The MSc Agricultural Extension and Innovation is a 24-month TAUGHT master’s programme involving full time mentored placement in a Teagasc advisory office or agricultural education centre while completing modules using reflective and blended learning. 

The MSc Agricultural Innovation Support is a 20-month RESEARCH master’s programme involving a 14-month placement in a Teagasc advisory office or agricultural education centre researching critical issues around the role of knowledge transfer in supporting farmer decision making and technology adoption.

Topics for application to this programme are listed below:

  1. Generative AI: Rethinking design of Assessments to support UDL approaches for vocational educators
  2. Evaluate the effectiveness of education in enhancing ecosystem services in Ireland's uplands
  3. Empowering farmers through Lifelong Learning: Identifying key skills for farmers to develop through Lifelong Learning
  4. Enhancing KT support for better distribution of organic manures – pig and poultry origin
  5. Examining integration of environmental messages with technical advice to reduce environmental losses on farms: what do farmers want?
  6. An assessment of farmers’ diversification needs and how Teagasc can more effectively deliver relevant services
  7. Identification of effective demonstrations within Signpost Events and their impact on farmer behaviour in climate action
  8. Devising and testing an advisory strategy for dairy clients with low milk solids production per cow
  9. Understanding the drivers of grassland management practices on Irish organic livestock farms
  10. Enhancing KT support for better distribution of organic manures from Anaerobic Digestors
  11. Attitudes and behaviours towards agri data sharing and governance in farming

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must hold an upper second-class honours degree in agricultural science or equivalent discipline that meets the educational qualification requirements of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and the Marine for the Farm Advisory System (FAS).

  • Applicants with a pass degree coupled with significant and appropriate work experience may also be considered.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 6.5 (no band less than 6.0 in each element), or equivalent.
