Welcome Message
Welcome to the webpage for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in the UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.
In the School, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where everyone—students, staff, and faculty—feel valued and supported. Our school believes that embracing a wide range of perspectives and backgrounds enriches our academic community and strengthens our research, teaching, and collaborations.
The Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee plays a key role in advancing these values. The EDI Committee comprises individuals representing different academic, administrative, research and student groups in the school. The committee works to create guidelines, initiatives, and events that promote an inclusive culture and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Leading these efforts is Prof. Trudee Fair, Chair of the EDI Committee. With a strong commitment to equity and inclusion, Trudee brings valuable insight and leadership to our ongoing work. The committee actively listens to the concerns of our school community, advocates for meaningful change, and ensures that EDI remains at the heart of our school’s future.
Trudee holds the position of Associate Dean for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the School of Agricultural and Food Sciences (SAFS), and chaired UCD’s 1st successful School’s application for the Athena Swan Silver Award. Gender equality is very important to Trudee, she was one of very few female academics when she initially started in UCD SAFS. She acknowledges the support of colleagues during her career and is now involved in the mentoring program within the school. Currently Professor Fair is lecturing in animal physiology and animal health, behaviour and welfare in UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science. Her research work has always been driven by a deep curiosity to further understand the egg as the foundation of life: What are the factors, the genes, the proteins, and the molecular structure of the egg that make it ready to sustain fertilisation, develop into an embryo, and form a viable pregnancy?
We invite you to explore our initiatives, learn more about our ongoing projects, and discover how you can get involved. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.
