Director of the Ad Astra Academy Academic Scholarship Programme
Associate Professor Paula Byrne is located in the School of Medicine, with a strong academic and research background in genetics, rare disorders and medical education. Paula actively promotes patient-
centred learning by incorporating patient-led seminars into the curriculum, providing students with the valuable opportunity to hear directly from individuals and families living with rare diseases. She is committed to innovation in medical education and integrating genomics into the medical curriculum.
Paula served on the Board of Directors of the Irish Platform for Patient's Organisations, Sciences and Industry (IPPSI) and was a founding member of the Irish Society of Human Genetics. She has been part of the Ad Astra Academy since it was created in 2011, having served as Chair and Director of the Academic Scholarship Programme.
