Cell Signalling: a matter of life and death
Whether a cell lives or dies is determined by complex protein signalling networks within the body. Using a combination of molecular biology and mathematical modelling, researchers in SBI and UCD Conway Institute have uncovered how the opposing biological functions of cell proliferation and apoptosis are regulated by the same elements in protein networks. The findings of their research, published in Nature Cell Biology, have ramifications for our understanding of cancer and other diseases. In this short video, Director of SBI Prof. Walter Kolch and research team members Dr Lan Nguyen and Carolanne Doherty discuss their research process and findings.
