SBI Researchers Attend Inaugural Systems Medicine Summer School
SBI PhD students Elena Nikonova and Alba Tourino travelled in June to the Stockholm archipelago for a new systems medicine training initiative developed through the Coordinating Action Systems Medicine (CASyM) programme:
The inaugural Systems Medicine Summer School, organised CASyM & FEBS, was held in the last week of June at the beautiful Djurönäset, 40 km from Stockholm. The summer school brought together clinicians, postdocs and PhD students working on various projects in Systems Medicine.
The first half of the summer school consisted of lectures on Systems Medicine implementation across Europe. The second half focused on hands-on tutorials on how to use statistical programming in proteomic, genomic and Chip-Seq data analysis. Participants were divided into groups and were asked to pick an interesting biological question and then try to answer it by analysing a relevant publicly available dataset with groups presenting their findings at the end of the summer school.
The Systems Medicine Summer School was a great opportunity to chat and network with colleagues from across Europe in a relaxed atmosphere, and was supplemented with great weather, amazing food, sauna outings and beautiful Scandinavian nature!
